Ayurveda-Demystifying the ancient practice
Ayurveda, originating over 5,000 years ago in the Indian subcontinent, is one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world. Its principles are documented in ancient texts like the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita. Ayurveda’s foundation lies in the belief that health results from the balance between mind, body, and spirit, influenced by individual constitutions known as doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.
Over millennia, Ayurveda evolved through contributions from various cultures and civilizations, including the Indus Valley, Vedic, and Buddhist periods. It flourished during the golden age of Indian civilization, under the Maurya and Gupta empires.
Despite periods of decline due to colonial rule and modernization, Ayurveda experienced a revival in the 20th century, gaining recognition both in India and globally. Today, it continues to be practiced alongside modern medicine, with a renewed focus on research, standardization, and integration into healthcare systems.
Ayurvedic principles encompass herbal medicine, diet, yoga, meditation, and lifestyle practices to promote health, prevent illness, and treat diseases. Its holistic approach and personalized care remain central to its enduring appeal and relevance in contemporary wellness practices.
